The Cabinet of Ministers this week approved to submit several Gazette Notifications containing the provisions laid down under the Special Commodity Levy Act No. 28 of 2007 to the Parliament for approval.
The move is aimed to stabilise the market price, provide relief to the consumers, and protect the local agriculture. The proposal to this effect, submitted by the Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The Gazettes include No.2236 /66 dated 18 July, No.2240/20 dated 11 August, No.2244/8 dated 7 September, No.2249/3 dated 11 October, No.2249/16 dated 13 October and No.2252/9 as well as No.2252/25 dated 2 November.
