The Cabinet of Ministers at its meeting on Monday decided to appoint a sub-Committee to study and make amendments to the draft tabled pertaining to a new Constitution.
The Committee will be chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris and includes Ministers Dinesh Gunawardena, Douglas Devananda, Ramesh Pathirana, and Ali Sabry.
On 9 September 2020, the then Cabinet of Ministers appointed a Committee composed of legal experts under the Chairmanship of President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva to draft a new Constitution.
The preliminary report of the said Committee was submitted to the President on 25 April 2022.
The Cabinet accordingly decided to appoint a sub-Committee comprising Ministers to study the content of the report and make suitable recommendations to the Cabinet.
