Health authorities yesterday confirmed five COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country’s COVID-19 fatalities to 634.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, an individual from Moratuwa died of COVID pneumonia exacerbated by heart disease while receiving treatment at the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Hospital. The individual was 80-years-old.
A 71-year-old individual from Peliyagoda also died on 20 April while receiving treatment at the Ittapana District Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID pneumonia.
A 76-year-old individual from Kottamulla tested positive for COVID-19 at the Marawila Base Hospital and was admitted to the Colombo East Base Hospital. The individual died of COVID pneumonia, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, dyslipidaemia, and heart disease on 21 April.
Health authorities state that an individual from Narahenpita tested positive for COVID-19 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and was transferred to the Homagama Base Hospital. The individual died of heart disease and COVID pneumonia yesterday. She was 77-years-old.
A 63-year-old individual from Kandy tested positive for COVID-19 at the Kandy General Hospital and was transferred to the Teldeniya Base Hospital, where he passed away yesterday. The cause of death is cited as chronic liver disease and COVID pneumonia exacerbated by lung disease.
