Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 detections exceeded 500,000 with the detection of 2,078 COVID-19 positive persons yesterday.
A total of 500,772 COVID-19 cases have been detected in Sri Lanka to date.
The patients detected yesterday include 2,070 persons from the New Year cluster and eight overseas arrivals. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 9,775 PCR tests were carried out yesterday.
The previous day, 9,672 PCR tests and 3,782 rapid antigen tests were carried out and 2,271 COVID-19 patients were detected. The detections include 2,241 persons from the New Year cluster and 30 persons from the Prisons cluster.
A total of 395,346 persons from the New Year cluster and 8,385 persons from the Prisons cluster have been detected to date. In addition to this, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster are also included in the country’s total COVID-19 detections.
The imported cases consist of 6,877 Sri Lankans and 328 foreigners.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients shows 107,543 persons from Colombo, 89,644 persons from Gampaha, 49,025 persons from Kalutara, 28,695 persons from Galle, and 23,947 persons from Kurunegala.
Western Province detections during the third wave include 75,246 persons from Colombo, 71,110 persons from Gampaha, and 41,967 persons from Kalutara.
At present, 59,058 persons are under medical or home-based care and 2,607 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,186 persons left treatment centres yesterday, raising the country’s COVID-19 recoveries to 429,776.
