Health authorities yesterday confirmed seven COVID-19 deaths, including three that occurred within the day, bringing the total count to 116.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information (DGI), five of the seven persons were from the Colombo District, with three being from the Colombo city.
This includes an individual from Colombo 13 who died of COVID-19 yesterday. She was 90 years old and upon having tested positive for COVID-19, was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to the Homagama Base Hospital, where she died of COVID-19 pneumonia. A resident of Moratuwa yesterday died of pneumonia exacerbated by COVID-19, while receiving treatment for the virus at the Homagama Base Hospital. He was 73 years old.
A resident of Chilaw, aged 70, also died yesterday at the Chilaw Base Hospital. The cause of death is cited as diabetes, high blood pressure and a stroke with COVID-19 pneumonia. A 48-year-old resident of Gothatuwa passed away at home on 27 November. He died of chronic lung disease and diabetes that worsened with COVID-19 pneumonia.
An individual from Colombo 2 was transferred from the National Hospital of Sri Lanka to the Colombo East Base Hospital after she tested positive for COVID-19. She died in the hospital’s intensive care unit on Saturday. According to the DGI, she was 50 years old and died of COVID-19 pneumonia and chronic lung disease.
Health authorities also confirmed that a 51-year-old resident of Akuressa died of chronic kidney disease with COVID-19 pneumonia. Having tested positive for COVID-19, she was transferred from the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital to the Homagama Base Hospital, where she died on 27 November.
In addition to this, a resident of Maradana passed away, while being admitted to hospital on 27 November. He was 78 years old and died of lung dysfunction with COVID-19.
