The latest report on the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA) will be presented to Parliament today.
Finance and Mass Media Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), Lasantha Alagiyawanna will present what he has described as the most comprehensive report by COPA on 831 state institutions to Parliament.
The Deputy Minister told reporters the report would consist of the accounts of 831 state institutions for 2015. He said it was the first time ever in Sri Lanka’s parliamentary history such a comprehensive report would be presented. Alagiyawanna also said that state institutions which have maintained their accounts in proper order would be felicitated at a function to be held on Monday afternoon under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Speaker Karu Jayasuriya.
Among the institutions the COPA examined are 50 ministries, 91 departments, 25 district secretariats, 45 provincial ministries, 23 municipal councils, 41 urban councils and 271 pradeshiya sabhas.
He said the report of COPA for 2016 will be presented to the House before the end of this year.
