The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday questioned Anti-Corruption Unit Director – Operations Namal Kumara, the individual who made headlines last week after he revealed an alleged attempt to assassinate the President and Former Defence Secretary, for over eight hours.

The questioning, which commenced at 10 a.m. in the morning, continued well past 7 p.m. last night, where the CID also recorded a formal statement by Namal Kumara.

Kumara was summoned to appear before the CID based on the alleged plot to kill President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa by using underworld figure Makdure Madush.

Police yesterday transferred Terrorist Investigation Department (TID) former Head DIG Nalaka de Silva to the Police Information Technology Division with immediate effect, Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara confirmed.

The transfer comes following accusations that the high ranking police officer was involved in an alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

The transfer, effective immediately, has been made by IGP Pujitha Jayasundera based on the approval by the National Police Commission.
