The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday evening arrested a suspect from Puttalam in relation to the ongoing Easter Sunday bombings investigation.
Police Spokesman SP Jaliya Senaratne told the press that the individual was a custodian of a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and is suspected to have used the NGO premises to spread extremist ideologies.
“The suspect has hosted some of the bombers to preach extremist ideologies and promote their views using a facility which was registered as an NGO as a training centre,” SP Senaratne said.
The CID has arrested a number of individuals related to the investigation in the recent past, drawing criticism from some in the legal profession that the proper procedure was not followed when a lawyer was arrested in related to the investigation last month.
