CIABOC files indictments against Ravi Karunanayake, Arjun Aloysius

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery and Corruption (CIABOC) yesterday filed six indictments against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Perpetual Treasuries Ltd. owner Arjun Aloysius at the Colombo High Court.

Both individuals have been charged under Section 19C of the Bribery Act, which concerns bribery in respect of Government business. The charges against Karunanayake are for taking up residence from 12 February to 30 September 2016 at an apartment complex in Colombo 03. During this time, Karunanayake was acting as the Finance Minister. The apartment was under the ownership of Walt and Row Associates, of which Aloysius was a Director at the time. 

According to allegations, Aloysius paid a sum of Rs. 11.68 million for the purchase of the house through cheques issued by Walt and Row Associates and Purchasing Capital Company.

Aloysius has also been charged for aiding and abetting under Section 19C of the Bribery Act.
