The Ministry of Power and Energy stated that there will be no more obstructions to the thermal power generation as the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has agreed to supply fuel needed to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
Power and Energy Ministry spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardena said, accordingly, fuel needed for the thermal power plant is currently being supplied.
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has temporarily suspended fuel supply due to non-payment of arrears owed by the Ceylon Electricity Board.
The CPC is supplying fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board under a credit limit of Rs. 80 billion and the fuel supply was suspended since the CEB has exceeded the limit.
The Ministry of Power and Energy says that due to this situation CEB lost about 150 MW of power generated by thermal power plants. Accordingly, continuous electricity supply to several areas of the island was disrupted yesterday.
However, after discussions, the Petroleum Corporation has agreed to supply fuel to the CEB.
