Information and Communications Technology, Higher Education, and Technology Innovation Minister Bandula Gunawardena yesterday said the Government would take measures to protect media freedom and allow the public to express their views freely.
Following assuming duties at the Media Ministry in Colombo, Gunawardena said the administration under President Rajapaksa is committed to upholding democratic rights through freedom of speech and providing space for the public to express their views on the Government.
“Press freedom is one the essential pillars of democracy and that was one of the key promises in President Rajapaksa’s manifesto. As the Minister in charge, I can assure our Government will provide protection for journalists so they can carry out their duties without any interference,” Gunawardena said.
