Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court yesterday further remanded former Western Province Governor and National Unity Front leader Azath Salley, who is in remand custody following his arrest by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) under the Prevention of Terrorism Act in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks.
Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala remanded Salley until 14 September. Salley who was receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital was allowed to stay in hospital until the end of treatment in the custody of the prison authorities.
Salley was arrested and detained for questioning on the advice of the Attorney General under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, 1978, Penal Code 291 (a) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) No. 56 of 2007.
