The Ayurvedic Medical Council (AMC) issued a statement on Thursday saying it would take action under the Ayurveda Act No.31 of 1961 against any person promoting Ayurvedic treatment against COVID-19 without proper licensing, stating it was an offence under the Act for unlicensed persons to promote such medicines.
The AMC stressed that any licensed medical professional selling or promoting medicines that had not been proved to be effective could be considered professional misconduct.
According to the AMC, the medical professional would be held responsible if a personal recipe is manufactured by a licensed doctor or is prescribed to a patient. They must immediately direct any patient displaying COVID-19 symptoms to a State hospital recommended by the Director-General of Health Services, the AMC statement added.
