The All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama (ACJU) in a statement yesterday said it was praying for a permanent solution and establishment of peace and justice in the Palestinian region.
Following is the full statement:
“The ACJU welcomes the ceasefire which has taken place in the Palestine region after two weeks of inhuman attacks on the lives of the innocent civilians in the region. We greatly appreciate the efforts of various parties especially the Government of Egypt for advocating of this ceasefire.
“It has been reported that the violence was initially instigated by attacks carried upon the worshippers, during the final days of the Holy Month of Ramadhaan, at the Masjid Al-Aqsa, the third holiest site for Muslims.
“We strongly condemn the attacks on the lives of the innocent civilians and call upon the international community to stand against these atrocities which has been continuing since 1947.
“It is internationally accepted that the security and freedom of the Palestinian people will lead to international peace, especially in the Middle East. The international community should forgo differences and express humanitarian solidarity with the people of Palestine. Further we appeal the United Nations to intervene in this matter and provide a permanent solution.
“We are grateful to the Prime Minister of our Motherland, Honourable Mahinda Rajapaksa who is known as a long-time supporter of the Palestinian cause and is the Founder President of the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, for issuing a statement emphasising that ‘Palestinian people’s legitimate right to statehood must be upheld’. We are also grateful to the Opposition Leader Hon. Sajith Premadasa and other Parliament members who spoke in the Parliament on behalf of people of Palestine. We take this opportunity to express our gratitude to all those who are advocating for peace and justice to be established in the world.
“We pray for the protection of Masjid Al-Aqsa and all other places of worship and for the establishment of justice, freedom and peace in the entire world. May Almighty Allah shower His Mercy upon the innocent victims and remove their sufferings and may humanity be bestowed with lasting peace and serenity.”
