A total of 844,327 persons have received the COVID-19 vaccine in Sri Lanka to date, with 5,972 persons vaccinated on Tuesday and 8,490 persons vaccinated on Monday.
At present, the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is being administered in Sri Lanka, with supplies purchased from the Serum Institute of India used to vaccinate persons over 30 and the vaccines received through the COVAX facility used to vaccinate persons over the age of 60 in the Western Province.
The immunisation program also utilised the 500,000 doses of the vaccination the country received as a donation from the Government of India.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 146,327 persons were vaccinated during the first week of the immunisation program which took place from 29 January to 4 February. A total of 504,664 persons were vaccinated between 5 February and 4 March.
The Epidemiology Unit adds that 108,557 persons received COVID-19 immunisation between 5 March and 11 March and 56,037 persons received COVID-19 immunisation between 12 March and 18 March.
On 19 March, 8,938 persons were vaccinated, on 20 March, 4,697 persons were vaccinated, and on 21 March, 645 persons were vaccinated.
