735 persons test positive for COVID-19

  • Total patient count rises to 67,850
  • 42,573 COVID-19 patients detected from Western Province
  • 6,046 persons currently undergoing treatment, recoveries rise to 61,461

A total of 735 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the country’s total COVID-19 patient count to 67,850.

The 729 patients are associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and a total of 63,849 persons linked to the Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons clusters have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

In addition to this, 1,931 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 150 foreigners are also among the total COVID-19 patient count.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, 24,386 persons from Colombo, 13,552 persons from Gampaha, 4,635 persons from Kalutara, 2,688 persons from Kandy, and 1,520 persons from Galle have tested positive for COVID-19 to date.

Included in the district distribution of COVID-19 patients are the 706 persons who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, of which 277 were from Colombo, 101 were from Kandy, 92 were from Gampaha, 53 were from Badulla, and 44 were from Kurunegala.

Patients detected from Colombo include 28 from Kaduwela, 24 from Moratuwa, 14 from Colombo 15, and 11 from Colombo 14.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 6,046 persons are currently under medical care, of which 364 persons are at the Giriulla Treatment Centre, 321 persons are at the Neville Fernando Treatment Centre, and 289 persons are at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre.

Hospitals are also monitoring 505 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

According to the Epidemiology Unit, the country’s COVID-19 recoveries rose to 61,461, with 85 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 80 persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital, and 57 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre among those discharged from hospitals yesterday.

In addition to this, the Health Promotion Bureau states that 1,774,378 PCR tests have been performed to date, including 12,024 PCR tests on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the National Operations Centre for the Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) yesterday stated that Posalen Place, Isuru Mawatha and Eksath Janapadaya in the Meedeniya Grama

Niladhari Division of the Matale District have been released from isolation. However, the Bondupitiya 727 Grama Niladhari Division in the Matugama Divisional Secretariat Division has been placed under isolation.
