67th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka celebrated in Thailand

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bangkok, Thailand celebrated the 67th Anniversary of Independence of Sri Lanka on 4 February with the participation of the diplomatic community in Bangkok, a large number of the expatriate Sri Lankan community living in Thailand and the well-wishers.
The august ceremony was commenced with the Ambassador hoisting the National Flag at the auspicious time amidst the playing of Magul Bera at the official residence. Showing much respect and heartfelt gratitude to the beloved motherland the National Anthem was sung by the gathering with much enthusiasm. Two minutes silence was observed in honour of national heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect and preserve the freedom, unity, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the country.
The religious observances were conducted by the religious leaders representing Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Muslim faiths to bless the country and the people.
The Ambassador in his welcome address highlighted the important features of the improved bilateral relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka particularly in the fields of cultural, religious, trade and tourism in the recent years. He expounded in detail the potential investment opportunities available in Sri Lanka for foreign investors due to the prevailing conducive atmosphere.
The national day messages of the President, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs were read out in Sinhala, Tamil and English languages respectively.
The traditional Sri Lankan food stuffs such as Kiribath, Kevum, Kokis Strings Hoppers and Pol Sambal were the main attractions offered at the conclusion of the ceremony.
