Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 fatalities continue to decline with 66 COVID-19 deaths confirmed on Monday.
A total of 12,284 COVID-19 fatalities have been confirmed to date.
Thirty-six COVID-19 fatalities confirmed on Monday were female and 30 were male. Of the total fatalities, 6,867 are male and 5,417 are female.
The majority of the COVID-19 fatalities are in the over-60 age group, with 76.4% of the total death count belonging to this age group. The Epidemiology Unit states that 22.43% of the total fatalities are in the 30 to 59 age group and 1.17% are in the below-30 age group. The COVID-19 deaths confirmed on Monday include 53 persons over the age of 60, 11 persons in the 30 to 59 age group, and two persons below the age of 30.
According to Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramali de Silva, 52 COVID-19 fatalities have been reported among pregnant women, with over 5,000 pregnant women having contracted the virus.
“Usually, between 90 and 100 maternal deaths are reported a year, but from COVID-19 alone, 52 deaths have been reported this year. Most of these women contracted the virus during the third wave and all deaths occurred after May,” she said.
