COVID-19 detections during the weekend totalled 658 with daily detections dropping below 400 on Saturday and yesterday.
On Saturday, 347 persons from the New Year cluster tested positive for COVID-19. This is the first time less than 400 COVID-19 cases were detected in a day since December 2021. According to the Epidemiology Unit, 398 persons tested positive for COVID-19 on 26 December 2021 and daily detections have since exceeded 400.
The Health Promotion Bureau states that 3,708 PCR tests and 2,241 rapid antigen tests were conducted on Saturday.
Yesterday, 311 persons tested positive for COVID-19. All patients detected yesterday were from the New Year cluster, the Department of Government Information states.
A total of 551,254 persons from the New Year cluster, 82,785 persons from the Peliyagoda cluster, 9,154 persons from the Prisons cluster, and 3,059 persons from the Divulapitiya cluster have tested positive for COVID-19.
In addition to this, 7,236 Sri Lankan returnees from overseas and 328 foreigners make up the country’s imported cases.
Sri Lanka’s total COVID-19 case count currently stands at 656,041.
This includes 136,915 persons from Colombo, 113,448 persons from Gampaha, 57,765 persons from Kalutara, 44,792 persons from Galle, and 31,150 persons from Kurunegala.
During the third wave of the pandemic, 104,618 persons from Colombo, 94,914 persons from Gampaha, and 50,707 persons from Kalutara tested positive for COVID-19.
There are currently 20,758 persons under medical and home-based care. In addition to this, 896 persons suspected of having COVID-19 are under observation.
The Epidemiology Unit states that 618,886 persons have recovered from COVID-19 to date, including 89 persons discharged from treatment centres yesterday.
