The country’s total COVID-19 patient count yesterday exceeded 80,000 with the detection of 518 new COVID-19 positive persons.
The patients detected yesterday include 487 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster and three persons linked to the prisons cluster. The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, and Prisons clusters have thus expanded to 76,413 patients.
In addition to this, 2,010 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 152 foreigners have also tested positive for the virus to date.
This brings the total number of COVID-19 patients detected in the island to 80,517, of which 27,420 are from Colombo District, 16,010 are from Gampaha District, 5,966 are from Kalutara District, 3,757 are from Kandy District, and 2,108 are from Kurunegala District.
The district distribution of patients includes the 519 persons who tested positive for the virus on Sunday, of which 122 were from Colombo, 85 were from Kandy, 64 were from Gampaha, 51 were from Puttalam, and 31 were from Ratnapura.
The patients detected from Colombo include 14 from Colombo 1, 10 from Padukka, and 10 from Wellampitiya.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 4,957 persons are currently under medical care, of which 321 patients are at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, 261 patients are at the Giriulla Treatment Centre, and 237 patients are at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.
As of 2 p.m. yesterday, 26 persons were receiving treatment in intensive care units.
Hospitals are also monitoring 557 persons suspected of having COVID-19. The Epidemiology Unit added that 49 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 48 persons from the Hikkaduwa Treatment Centre, and 47 persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital are among the 811 persons discharged from hospitals yesterday. A total of 75,110 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the virus to date.
According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 11,779 PCR tests were performed on Sunday.
