Health officials confirmed 43 more COVID-19 deaths on Sunday, raising the country’s death toll to 13,102.
The fatalities confirmed on Sunday include 31 persons over the age of 60 and 12 persons in the 30 to 59 age group. No deaths were confirmed from the below-30 age group. The Epidemiology Unit states that 76.43% of the total COVID-19 fatalities are from the over-60 age group, 22.41% are from the 30 to 59 age group, and 1.16% is from the under-30 age group.
Epidemiology Unit data also shows that 7,306 of the total fatalities are male and 5,796 are female. Of the deaths confirmed on Sunday, 24 were male and 19 were female.
According to Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath, the majority of fatalities continue to be of unvaccinated persons. He added that the country will see a significant drop in COVID-19 fatalities as vaccination coverage increases.
