COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 42,781 persons on Monday and 74.18% of the country’s population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
According to Our World in Data, the second dose has been administered to 64.04% of the population. The Epidemiology Unit states that 15,947,255 persons have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 13,770,028 persons have received the second dose as well.
The third dose has been administered to 994,929 persons, of which 37,635 persons were vaccinated on Monday. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as the third dose.
The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) yesterday requested all persons over 60 years to ensure they receive the booster dose against COVID-19. “Furthermore, the SLMA reiterates the need for all frontline healthcare workers to complete their vaccination schedule and to receive the booster dose as well,” the SLMA statement read.
The SLMA added that the recommendation was being made based on the higher risk of infection with gatherings during the festive season as well as the possible transmission of the Omicron variant.
In addition to the booster dose which is currently being administered in the country, the first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines are also being administered.
On Monday, 908 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 2,896 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,951,402 persons in total and 10,948,732 persons have received the second dose as well.
The first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,552,311 persons and the second dose has been administered to 463,992 persons. On Monday, 790 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 552 persons received the second dose.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, the first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose has been administered to 1,418,593 persons.
A total of 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V and 155,812 persons have received the second dose of the vaccine.
The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons and 782,899 persons have received the second dose as well.
