400 arrested for drug related offences in Western Province

During raids conducted by the Police in the Western Province from 6 a.m. on Sunday to 5 a.m. on Monday, 400 persons have been arrested on suspicion of being involved in illegal activities including drug trafficking.

The Police carried out 386 raids during the 24-hour period and in 171 raids, 171 suspects were arrested in connection with heroin trafficking. Police have arrested 94 people in connection with cannabis smuggling. 85 people have been arrested in connection with illicit liquor.

Another 17 people have been arrested on suspicion of Goda and Ice drug possession and 33 others were arrested in connection with other illegal activities. The heroin raids were carried out in Modara, Panadura South, Negombo, Sapugaskanda and Maradana.
