The government is to recruit 30,000 graduates and G.C.E. (O/L) qualified youth to the public sector to assist the ongoing development projects. As a prelude to this recruitment two new services will be established in the public sector under the name Sri Lanka Development Officers’ Service and Sri Lanka Development Assistants Service.
These two services will be formulated as a combined service designating the Secretary, Ministry of Public Administration and Home Affairs as the appointing authority under the proposed service minutes.
The 42,000 Graduates previously recruited as Development Assistants and Project Implementing Assistants in 2004 were classified as departmental service employees and the respective Secretaries to Ministries were the appointing authorities.
According to the new proposal approved by the Government today, 15,000 Graduates who will be recruited to Sri Lanka Development Officers’ Service will be placed on the salary scale MN-4 as per the PA circular No.6/2006 with an initial basic salary of Rs.14, 850. They are also entitled to Cost of Living and other special allowances of Rs.6, 600 per month.
The youths who have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) and sat for the G.C.E. (A/L) will be recruited under Sri Lanka Development Assistants Service. 15,000 such youths will be placed on the salary scale MN-1 with an initial basic salary of Rs.12, 920 plus Cost of Living and other special allowances of Rs.6, 600 per month. These recruitments to the pensionable Public Service will be made effective from 1 August, 2011.
