Islandwide travel restrictions will be further extended until 14 June, the Government yesterday announced.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, travel restrictions will be lifted at 4 a.m. on 14 June. The restrictions were to be lifted on 7 June.
The country’s daily COVID-19 detections have remained above 2,000 since 9 May, with health authorities stating that 3,306 persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday. This includes 3,306 persons from the New Year cluster, which is the country’s largest cluster to date.
The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, Prisons, and New Year clusters have a cumulative patient count of 185,922, of which 90,792 are from the New Year cluster, 82,785 are from the Peliyagoda cluster, 5,980 are from Prisons cluster, and 3,059 are from the Divulapitiya cluster.
The country’s imported cases consist of 4,393 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and 318 foreigners.
This takes into account the 2,877 COVID-19 patients detected on Tuesday, of which 2,845 were from the New Year cluster and 32 were Sri Lankan returnees from abroad. Tuesday’s patients include 654 persons from Gampaha, 646 persons from Colombo, and 281 persons from Kalutara.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients detected to date records 48,815 persons from Colombo, 32,697 persons from Gampaha, 19,688 persons from Kalutara, 10,166 persons from Kandy, and 9,334 persons from Kurunegala.
A total of 192,547 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 to date and 30,306 persons are currently under medical care. This includes 635 persons at the Punani Treatment Centre, 588 persons at the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 492 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital.
There are also 1,691 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation at various hospitals.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 1,504 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday, including 111 persons from the Dambadeniya Treatment Centre, 72 persons from the Bingiriya Treatment Centre, and 68 persons from the Hardy Technical College ICC.
The country’s death toll meanwhile rose to 1,566 after 39 more deaths were reported yesterday.
A total of 160,714 persons have recovered from the virus to date.
The Health Promotion Bureau states that 19,314 PCR tests were performed in the island yesterday. Daily PCR testing has remained below 25,000 since 22 May.
