The country’s COVID-19 patient count yesterday exceeded 91,000 with the detection of 253 COVID-19 positive patients.
Among the persons who tested positive for the virus yesterday are 244 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster and nine persons linked to the Prisons cluster. The COVID-19 clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons currently stand at 86,408 patients.
In addition to this, 2,529 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 193 foreigners have also tested positive for COVID-19 to date.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 91,018 COVID-19 patients have been detected in Sri Lanka, of which 2,836 are currently under medical care. The active patients include 129 persons at the Embilipitiya Treatment Centre, 114 persons at the Krishnapuram Treatment Centre, and 111 persons at the Neville Fernando Teaching Hospital. Treatment centres also have 435 persons suspected of having COVID-19 under observation.
Hospitals yesterday discharged 324 persons, including 46 persons from the Punani Treatment Centre, 40 persons from the Warakapola Base Hospital, and 23 persons from the Yakkala Treatment Centre. The country’s COVID-19 recoveries have risen to 87,630.
On Tuesday, 8,618 PCR tests were performed in the island and 251 persons tested positive for COVID-19. This includes 203 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster, 25 overseas arrivals, and 23 persons linked to the prisons cluster.
Of the patients detected on Tuesday, 66 were from Gampaha, 48 were from Colombo, and 20 were from Jaffna.
The district distribution of COVID-19 patients detected to date includes 29,389 persons from Colombo, 18,116 persons from Gampaha, 6,574 persons from Kalutara, 4,165 persons from Kandy, and 2,776 persons from Ratnapura.
