The opening of 210 bridges already built under the program to build 1,210 rural bridges and the work on building 1,000 more bridges will commence in 20 districts island-wide today (18) at 10:40 a.m. Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa is directing the program under the ‘Mahinda Chinthana’ vision for bringing prosperity to villages by shortening the distance between the village and town through rural bridges. Ministers, Parliamentarians and other people’s representatives will participate in the ceremony to open the new bridges already built and begin work on more rural bridges today, looking towards the east at the auspicious time of 10:40 a.m. About 75% of Sri Lanka’s population lives in rural areas where nearly six million people will benefit from the program to build 1210 bridges.
