COVID-19 vaccines were administered to 17,443 persons on Tuesday, meaning that 93.6% of the population over the age of 20 have received both doses of a vaccine to date.
The first dose has been administered to 15,888,053 persons and the second dose has been administered to 13,682,459 persons. Our World in Data states that 73.88% of the total population has received the first dose and 63.61% has received the second dose as well.
The third dose is also being administered in the country, starting with frontline workers. All persons over the age of 60 who received the second dose at least three months ago are now eligible for a booster shot. While the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is being administered as the booster, persons over 60 can receive the third dose regardless of the vaccine they received as the first two doses.
“Priority has been given to the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara Districts of the Western Province; Galle, Matara and Hambantota Districts of the Southern Province; and the Anuradhapura and Ampara Districts. In future, the program will expand to other districts as well,” Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said.
A total of 128,811 persons have received the booster to date, including 6,560 persons vaccinated on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, 3,065 persons received the first dose of Pfizer and 507 persons received the second dose of the vaccine. In total, the first dose of Pfizer has been administered to 1,512,490 persons and the second dose has been administered to 452,107 persons.
The first dose of Sinopharm has been administered to 11,932,021 persons and the second dose has been administered to 10,873,247 persons. On Tuesday, 1,069 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 6,233 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm.
Eight persons received the second dose of Moderna on Tuesday, raising the number of persons to have received the second dose of the vaccine to 782,730. The first dose of Moderna has been administered to 804,801 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 1,479,631 persons and the second dose to 1,418,593 persons.
One person received the second dose of Sputnik V on Tuesday and a total of 155,782 persons have received the second dose. The Epidemiology Unit states that 159,110 persons have received the first dose of Sputnik V.
