15 parties vie for north polls

Fifteen political parties and six independent groups have come forward to contest in Jaffna electoral district for the forthcoming general election for seven seats.

A total of 210 candidates will contest in Jaffna (Jaffna and Kilinochchi) for seven seats.

Seventeen political parties and 12 independent groups fielded nominations in Jaffna, but nominations papers of six independent groups and two parties were rejected by the returning officer.

The rejected political parties are Our Sri Lanka Freedom Front and United Socialist Party.

The ex-LTTE cadres’ independent group nomination papers were accepted.
