Due to the construction work of the Broadland Hydro Power plant in the lower section of the Lakshapana complex, with a capacity of 35 MW and 126 GW to be added to the national grid, and not relesing harmful carbon emissions to the atmosphere, the CEB has earned the privilege of registering for the United Nations CDM programme.
The signing of agreements to obtain guidance was signed by the President of the Korean Ecoeye organisation Jung Jae Soon and the Chairman of the CEB Prof. Wimaladharma Abeywickrema on Thursday.
The Ministry of Power and Energy stated that due to the construction of this hydro power plant this it will prevent the release of about 80000 metric tons of carbon per year to the atmosphere. Due to the prevention of the release of carbon the United Nations CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) programme is expected to reimburse 15% of the cost to the CEB.
CEB chairman Prof. Wimaladharma Abeywickrema, GM Nihal Wickremasooriya, Broadland Project Director Dr. Kamal Laksiri and several other officials participated in this event.
