The COVID-19 immunisation program on Saturday administered COVID-19 vaccines to 136,677 persons, bringing the number of persons to receive the first dose to 2,259,385 and the second dose to 509,998.
According to the Epidemiology Unit, 59,881 persons received the first dose of Sinopharm and 76,615 persons received the second dose of Sinopharm on Saturday. A total of 154,640 persons have received both doses of the vaccine and the first dose has been administered to 1,269,157 persons.
The first dose of AstraZeneca has been administered to 925,242 persons and 355,358 persons have received the second dose as well. This includes 181 persons who received the second dose on Saturday.
The first dose of Sputnik V has been administered to 64,986 persons and the administration of the second dose in Gothatuwa commenced yesterday.
The country received 50,000 first dose products of the Sputnik V vaccine last week and the doses were to be used in Kandy District. However, the vaccination program was suspended yesterday and today, with Kandy District Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Parliamentarian Dilum Amunugama saying this was due to advice from the Epidemiology Unit.
“The vaccine doses are in storage in Kandy, but the Epidemiology Unit informed us on [Saturday] evening that the Health Ministry has not received clearance documentation for the vaccine doses. We must act on the advice of the Epidemiology Unit,” Amunugama explained.
He added that vaccination will commence tomorrow.
