The Director of the Media Centre of the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that 131 houses and 49 shops which were severely damaged during the communal riots in Aluthgama and Beruwala last July have been completely renovated and handed over to their owners.
He added that reconstruction of the remaining houses and shops is underway.
Security Forces Headquarters West has been entrusted with this task along with the Sri Lanka Navy and Air Force. During the unrest 210 houses and 84 shops were reported to be damaged.
