13 more COVID-19 cases prop total to over 3,300

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the island yesterday surpassed 3,300 yesterday with the identification of 13 patients, including 12 foreign arrivals.

The COVID-19 count is currently 3,312 and the Epidemiology Unit states that over 100 cases have been identified since 13 September. The situation report from 13 September records a total of 3,195 cases and the report from the following day records 3,234 cases.

The total count includes 12 patients identified on Monday, of which 10 are Sri Lankan returnees from abroad and two are foreigners. The Epidemiology Unit adds that 1,330 Sri Lankan returnees and 56 foreigners have tested positive for the virus in the island thus far.

The number of persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre to test positive for COVID-19 increased to 651 yesterday, after an inmate tested positive. The local cases also include 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts.

Of the confirmed cases, 181 are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals. This includes 57 persons at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 52 persons at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), and 34 persons at the Iranawila Hospital.

Hospitals are also monitoring 65 persons suspected of having COVID-19.

The Epidemiology Unit adds that 18 persons were discharged during the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. yesterday, having recovered from COVID-19. This includes seven persons from the Welikanda Base Hospital, six from the Iranawila Hospital, and five from the NIID.

The total number of COVID-19 recoveries has thus risen to 3,118 in the island. To date, thirteen COVID-19-related deaths have been recorded in Sri Lanka. The National Operation Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) stated that 18 persons had left quarantine centres yesterday having completed the process. A total of 43,849 persons have left centres thus far and 6,626 persons are currently undergoing quarantine at 66 centres managed by the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and the Sri Lanka Air Force.

The NOCPCO added that 290 persons from Abu Dhabi arrived in the island yesterday and have been directed to quarantine centres.
