Eleven persons tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total number of patients identified in the island to 3,360.
A total of 1,438 overseas arrivals have tested positive for COVID-19 thus far and the imported cases include 64 foreigners. Of the local cases, 950 are Navy personnel and their close contacts and 651 are persons connected to the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre.
The number of active cases has dropped from 146 at 10 a.m. on Saturday to 139 at present. The Epidemiology Unit states that 47 persons at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 37 persons at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), and 25 persons at the Hambantota District General Hospital are currently receiving treatment. Hospitals are also monitoring 40 persons suspected of having COVID-19. In addition to this, the number of recoveries rose to 3,208 yesterday, with 22 persons being discharged having recovered from the virus. According to the Epidemiology Unit, this includes seven persons from the Welikanda Base Hospital, five persons from the NIID, five persons from the Iranawila Hospital, four persons from the Hambantota District General Hospital, and one person from the Colombo East Base Hospital.
The National Operation Centre for the Prevention of the COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) states that 7,233 persons are currently undergoing quarantine at 67 centres in the country. The number of persons to complete the process and leave quarantine centres has increased to 45,175 with 467 persons leaving centres yesterday.
