Ten new COVID-19 case was reported yesterday, raising the total number of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka to 2,928, as 169 Sri Lankans were repatriated to Colombo from four countries.
Those who were repatriated yesterday arrived from Thailand, the UK, Dubai and Doha. They were moved to quarantine centres after being subjected to PCR tests, the Ministry of Defence said.
According to the Department of Government information, the 10 patients were recently repatriated persons from Chennai, Turkey and the UAE and had been in quarantine when they tested positive for COVID-19. According to the Health Promotion Bureau, 127 infected patients are under medical care. According to Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, 24 persons recovered and were discharged from care yesterday, pushing the total number of persons who have recovered to 2,789. A total of 11 have succumbed to the virus. 65 persons suspected to have COVID-19 symptoms are being closely monitored by heath authorities.
Of the patients under treatment, nine patients including one foreign national are being treated at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (NIID). There were no patients recorded at the Kandakadu treatment centre, Base Hospital Welikanda treats 75 with the Minuwangoda Base Hospital and the Iranawila Hospital each treating 17 and 15 COVID-19 patients respectively.
