A group of German students known as the GreenTeam smashed the 0-100 km (0-62 miles) per hour world record for an electric car recently, they said.
The car managed to reach the speed in a recorded 1.779 seconds, beating a previous record by 0.004 of a second.
The team carried out the attempt on a drag racing track in Mariensiel.
The acceleration speed was measured from the average of two attempts in opposite directions, explained the head of GreenTeam, Philipp Pferdt.
The car was designed, built and assembled by the students with only the most complicated procedures being carried out in cooperation with sponsors and partners.
Lightest member of the team, Prisca Schmid was picked to drive the car.
