Dinesh Deheragoda, 2011’s National Rally Champion, will become the first Sri Lankan to represent his country at an international regional rally championship when he and his turbo-charged 4WD Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution RS take part at the Dubai International Rally.
Backed by United Motors for over 10 years, Deheragoda has dominated the local racing circuit, at multiple national rally championships and MRA rally championships, as well as a national tarmac championship, a speed championship and a national GT championship under his belt.
He has further secured the 2012 National Gravel Championship, 2012 Speed Championship and the 2012 SLARDAR Championship in the SL-GT 3500cc category.
Held since the mid-1980s, the Dubai International Rally is one of the most important rally events in the world as it is the final round of the FIA Middle East Rally Championship and helps decide the champion for the year.
Dinesh Deheragoda will be competing in the FIA class 3 also known as Group ‘N’, together with his co-driver and navigator Sanjaya Roshan. With the unstinted support of United Motors Lanka PLC, the team looks set to show the world the best of Sri Lankan rallying and racing.
