Maruti Suzuki India Limited, India’s largest car maker announced the roll out of its ten millionth Suzuki Maruti vehicle manufactured in India. The company achieved this historic milestone when a Metallic Breeze Blue WagonR VXi bearing Chassis No 243899 rolled out from the Company’s Gurgaon plant on 15th March 2011.
This landmark achievement, besides placing Suzuki Maruti up on the leader board with a select handful of car makers worldwide to have reached the magical score, also makes the brand highest selling by far in India.
On the occasion, Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited was quick to comment on the role its customers and keys stakeholders had played to help Suzuki Maruti set this momentous record, taking the opportunity to thank everyone from founding partners who laid a solid foundation of values and practices, to customers, employees and business associates.
Maruti Suzuki India Limited, which started operations in India in 1983 (then Maruti Udyog Limited) as a joint venture between the Government of India and Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, took 23 years to cross the 5 million unit mark, has seen the demand for its fuel efficient models sky rocket in the recent past to record a remarkable score of manufacturing the next 5 million units in a little more than 6 years.
Several focused initiatives like capacity expansion, higher productivity levels and enhanced R&D capability contributed to towards the company reaching the magic number.
In Sri Lanka too the brand has retained its pre-eminent position at the head of the sales charts retaining its position as the highest selling brand new car for eight successive years.
The introduction of world strategic models based on a new design philosophy saw the likes of the A-Star, Ritz and WagonR winning customers across all its markets boosted by innovations released over the past couple of years that have given the brand greater momentum and a head start in almost all geographical markets around the world.
The launch of models featuring K-Series petrol engines In Sri Lanka has helped to reinforce technological supremacy for the Suzuki Maruti vehicle range besides winning new aficionados for these nifty, thrifty vehicles. Suzuki Maruti currently offers a wide range of 16 passenger vehicle models in India. It is the largest car maker with over 45 per cent share in India’s passenger vehicle market.
The present product portfolio of the Company includes compact cars M800, world’s largest selling Alto, Alto K10, Estilo, WagonR, Ritz, A star and Swift, MPV Omni and Eeco and SUV Gypsy.
Next year, Maruti Suzuki India expects annual production targets to rise again with total production reaching 1.2 million units for the year.
