Klevenberg (Pvt) Ltd. will be sponsoring the ‘Lucas Drive’ Fun Rally on 4 September, organised by the Classic Car Club of Ceylon (CCCC).

The drive begins at Viharamahadevi Park at 7 a.m. and ends at the race track in Pannala, where “several exciting events and fun competitions for the entire family” are planned, as well as “a chance of winning some of the several valuable gifts on offer,” according to the CCCC.

The drive itself (roughly 45 km) is more similar to a parade than a rally, as it showcases the beautiful classic cars the CCCC is renowned for, across some of the island’s safest tracks.

Klevenberg General Manager Manjula Wijemanne said: “With our long-term involvement in the motor industry and the long term relationship from the very inception of the CCCC, it is fitting that we sponsor the ‘Lucas Drive’ which is the members’ day.”

The CCCC was founded in 1992, and today has grown to a size of 250 enthusiasts, connected through their love of vintage cars.

Speaking of the CCCC, he said: “It has laid the foundation in developing relationships among its members and been in the forefront of organising many events in the industry.”

Klevenberg is the sole distributor of Lucas Automotive products, perhaps best known in Sri Lanka for their environmentally friendly, recyclable batteries.

Managing Director/CEO Murali Praksah of Browns Group (of which Klevenberg is a subsidiary), said: “The brand Lucas, which has a heritage of trust and reliability amongst motorists, has also remained relevant to its customers through product and service innovations which make this sponsorship an ideal fit with our brand promise.”

Wijemanne referred to the Lucas brand as “the premier auto battery brand in Sri Lanka”.

These industry relationships between manufacturer and enthusiast are crucially important, considering the difficultly of finding parts and maintaining these classic cars – most of which are of English origin, said CCCC President Clive De Silva.

“We are very pleased that the club has reconnected with Klevenberg for the event. Klevenberg and the CCCC have a long standing relationship given that the Chairman of Klevenberg, Balasubramanium, is a founder member of the club.”

Klevenberg have been widely used by our members as most of the cars are of English origin. We are hopeful that this relationship will grow from strength to strength.”

Klevenberg Ltd. is the sole distributor of Lucas Automotive products and Batteries.
