Adding to the company’s sustainability initiatives, Douglas and Sons (Pvt) Ltd. (DSL) on Sunday launched its first eco-friendly tyre to the local market.

This tyre, the GT Radial Champiro ECO, is manufactured with reduced carbon emissions by Indonesian manufacturer PT Gajah Tunggal Tbk, and has been recognised by MURI (the Indonesian Record Body) as the first eco-friendly tyre produced by an Indonesian manufacturer.

Using Nanotek Silica Technology, the GT Radial Champiro ECO produces very low rolling resistance. This results in lower heat generation, increased tyre life and savings on fuel. The combination of all these factors makes the GT Radial Champiro ECO a truly environmentally friendly product.

“Creating the right environment is purely in our hands and it is our will and attitude that will determine the fate of our environment. We are therefore delighted that as a responsible business entity, DSL has been able to create value to our stakeholders through this new introduction of GT Radial Champiro ECO, and thereby reaffirm our commitment towards innovative, progressive, and responsible business practices that aid sustainable living,” said DSL Chairman Saroj Perera at the press briefing of the launch.

Furthermore, the GT Radial Champiro ECO already meets the EU tyre regulations, including noise emission regulations that will come into effect in 2012. Additionally, the tread’s new silica-based tread compound reduces heat development and provides high grip levels on wet surfaces. As a result the tyre promises an overall outstanding performance with a high level of comfort and safety while driving.

The tyre is available in sizes ranging from 12 to 16 inches and provides for the needs of a replacement tyre for a majority of vehicle types. GT Radial Champiro ECO tyres are now available through all DSL dealers island wide for the budget and environmentally conscious customers, drivers and vehicle owners.
