Leading auto part dealer in Sri Lanka, Douglas & Sons Pvt. Ltd. (DSL) has been appointed the authorised agent for WABCO Antilock Brake System (ABS) for heavy vehicles as part of its promise to offer solutions for safer Sri Lankan roads.
Manufactured with German technology, WABCO ABS is a safe and effective braking system that allows the driver to maintain directional stability and control over steering. Drivers lose control of the vehicle when the wheels get locked during an emergency braking, especially on a slippery road. Therefore, ABS is designed to avoid such incidents thus helping drivers to steer to safety.
ABS works with the regular braking system of the vehicle by automatically modulating the air pressure within the brake chamber at each wheel to maintain optimum performance.
Though primarily designed for this cause, ABS will also minimise the vehicle stopping distance especially on slippery roads. The system comes equipped with a central Electronic Control Unit (ECU), four-wheel speed sensors and four modulator valves within the brake system. If the ECU detects movement that signals wheel lock in any wheel it will work to reduce or increase pressure on the wheel by up to 15 times a second depending on the scenario and the driver will feel this adjustment via brake pedal pulsation. This ensures that with WABCO ABS the wheels are practically impossible to lock.
However, in the unlikely event of a malfunction the ECU will disable the ABS by part or completely and will issue a warning to the driver.
Due to its huge contribution in accident prevention, ABS comes as a standard on most vehicles produced today. Recently, the Indian Ministry of Transport recognised the benefits of the system and introduced a mandate making the ABS a compulsory device in all heavy vehicles to take effect in 2016.
WABCO India was established in 1962 as a manufacturer of conventional and advanced braking systems, and other air assisted products, which has now grown to five world-class manufacturing facilities, a software design centre and a test track in India.
By partnering with WABCO to offer the Sri Lankan market ABS, DSL stays true to its promise of offering quality and safe automobile solutions to local motorists. DSL has imported a wide range of WABCO ABS to fit any model of Indian trucks and buses available in Sri Lanka and also provides installation services offering motorists a holistic solution. The latest addition to the company’s portfolio, which includes brands NGK, Exedy, Mitsuboshi, KYB, Meritor and Gabriel, has helped DSL further fortify its presence in Sri Lanka’s automobile solution market.
