British-made classic Jaguar and Rolls-Royce cars seen during the "British Car Day" rally in Colombo February 15, 2015. Over 100 British-made classic cars participated in the rally to celebrate British Car Day in Sri Lanka.
The Classic Car Club of Ceylon together with Land Rover conducted the ‘British Car Day’ last weekend. The event started at 8 a.m. from the picturesque Town Hall premises and attracted close to 100 classic British automobiles. The vehicles, which belong to well-known enthusiasts, were showcased at the venue before they commenced on a parade route through the heart of Colombo. The parade, which was a sight to behold, ended at the Kingsbury Hotel where all the members were treated to a British themed brunch which was hosted by the Classic Car Club of Ceylon and Land Rover.
Land Rover made a mark on the event by having a vintage Series 1 Defender as the lead vehicle, which British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka John Rankin, was travelling in as the Guest of Honour. Land Rover also displayed its latest range of high-end vehicles at the event ranging from the Range Rover Sport, to the ever-popular Evoque.

“Land Rover has always been a major part of the British motor industry. We are very happy to be a part of this event as it gives us the opportunity to showcase our most modern products, against the backdrop of the best cars Britain ever made. We thank the Classic Car Club of Ceylon for this annual event, as it is a truly great initiative that brings many vehicle enthusiasts together. ‘British Car Day’ has become increasingly popular over the years and the Land Rover team will continue to support the event in the future,” said SML Frontier Automotive Managing Director Sheran Fernando.
Every classic British marque was represented at the event including Jaguar, Aston Martin, Triumph, Lotus, MG, Morgan and Rolls Royce. The camaraderie at the event was clear to see, with everyone in attendance sharing their passion for all things British and catching up with old friends. The Classic Car Club of Ceylon and Land Rover brought this wonderful event to life with an impressive turnout of man and machine.
