Associated Motorways Ltd. is celebrating its 65th year of excellence in 2014. AMW is a now a household name as the leader in the automotive sector, representing numerous world renowned brands.
As part of the many celebrations lined up for this momentous occasion, AMW has announced the unveiling of a new celebratory logo to symbolise its 65 years of success. AMW has also announced the implementation of a new customer loyalty program, which in addition to many more special offerings to come, will help fulfil the dreams of many hoping to purchase their first car or upgrade to their dream one.
Established in 1949 by Sir Cyril de Zoysa (1896 to 1978), Associated Motorways pioneered the concept of harnessing Sri Lanka’s natural rubber for the manufacture of rubber products, chief of which was for tyre rebuilding. Sir Cyril’s success story goes on to tell of how he became one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the country.
In the past 65 years AMW has enjoyed an illustrious and fruitful tenure as the leader of the automotive industry. In 1959 AMW was appointed distributor for Nissan Motor Co. Ltd., a partnership that has brought the iconic vehicles of Nissan to Sri Lankans for decades.
In 1982 the world renowned motorcycle and marine manufacture Yamaha came under the umbrella of AMW. Yet more good news for Sri Lankan consumers was received in 1992, when AMW was appointed sole agent for Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, and later on in 2006 as they became agents for the Suzuki Motor Corporation.
Thanks to the affordability of these cars, buyers were finally able to purchase the car of their desire. This, as with all vehicles offered by AMW, was backed with the peace of mind offered from AMW’s island wide dealer network, to ensure that spares and service is never a problem. AMW now represents many internationally recognised automotive brands, including Nissan, Suzuki, Yamaha, Piaggio, BP/Castrol, , Goodyear Tyres, Case New Holland, to name a few.
One of the biggest milestones in AMW’s history was the joining of hands with the Al Futtaim Group, a UAE based conglomerate. Having been aligned with the global development strategy of the Al Futtaim Group, Associated Motorways Ltd. is now a multinational company with world class standards.
A large conglomerate in the UAE and a multinational group, the Al-Futtaim group is an integrated commercial, industrial and services organisation with diversified interests in automotive, electronics, insurance, services, real estate, retail and overseas.
The unveiling of the new commemorative logo and the introduction of the new loyalty card for the 65th year anniversary celebrations is indeed a milestone for the company. From their humble beginnings 65 years ago, AMW has become one of the most diversified automotive companies in Sri Lanka, with something for everyone, making a world of difference in the country’s economy as well as in the lives of Sri Lankan customers.
