BMW Asia and Prestige Automobile Ltd. announced the availability of BMW Navigation Professional as standard in the all-new BMW 7 Series models to its Sri Lankan customers, giving maximum comfort and information en route to their destination.
Equipped with a high-resolution 3D colour display – up to 10.25 inches with split-screen functionality – the navigation system not only shows directions but also features a map view, with maps in 3D, and a photo-realistic depiction of places of interest.
All menus are presented in virtual three-dimension and makes calculations in real time. A fast, 1.3 GHz processor with a built-in 3D graphic chip permits fluid browsing and scrolling; the animations and dynamic transitions making it fun to use. Sub-menus fade in while the main menus move into the background, but still staying visible. This allows the driver to interact with the vehicle and keep track of their exact location at all times.
The Navigation Professional allows practical interaction from the first step: for optimal orientation the driver is shown the selected location in a split screen with a map view. Depending on individual requirements, the driver can use zoom functions to check and change the view in the section on display.
The High Guiding Function makes city navigating easier and unclear road layouts more understandable. Depending on the equipment installed the navigation information is clearly displayed on the multifunctional instrument display, the central Control Display or the BMW Heads-Up Display.
High Guiding is automatically activated before the next navigation instruction: from 300m in extra-urban environments and 150m in cities, the arrows indicating the route change to a detailed perspective representation of the surroundings. Lane Guiding offers extra information so the driver can change lanes easily.
The expanded feature bar allows the driver to customise contents of maps without leaving the map view. Changes are shown immediately and can easily be altered. The feature bar fades in as an extension of the original toolbar and opens further selections.
The navigation system can be operated with the iDrive Controller and the buttons can be used to comfortably maneuver with one hand. Frequently used functions like multimedia, radio or navigation are easily accessible with a direct selection button. Voice Control allows the driver to perform certain navigation functions without taking their hands off the steering wheel. A destination can be entered, with city, street and building number all in one line.
In the interactive map view the driver can also change the size of a section of the map or tilt it with a knob on the iDrive Controller. When a point on the map is selected, the so-called PIE menu opens: depending on availability, one click here shows points of interest in the area and relevant details which will take the driver destination of choice.
