Tata Motors last week announced its entry into the growing compact SUV segment with the commercial launch of its compact SUV, the Tata Nexon.
With an introductory price of INRs. 5,85,000 ex-showroom Delhi, for the petrol variant and at INRs. 6,85,000, ex-showroom Delhi, for the diesel variant, the car enters a highly competitive segment which is also one of the fastest growing segments in India.
Targeted at personal car buyers, the Tata Nexon is the 4th product based on the ‘Impact Design’ philosophy, which is trying to recreate Tata’s brand image in the consumer market.
Unveiling the Tata Nexon in Mumbai, Guenter Butschek, CEO & MD, Tata Motors, said, “The Tata Nexon is the result of our intent to break away from the conventional approach of segmentation in its discreet forms and fulfilling a larger set of milieus. Connecting aspirations of our customers, with the Tata Nexon, we offer an unparalleled package of style, performance, and innovative features.”
When asked if the company was late in the segment, Mayank Pareek, President - Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, “There is a definite last entrant advantage that we have, wherein we don’t have to make our own mistakes and learn from our competitors mistakes.”
Pareekh said Tata is trying to fill the product gaps with the help of Nexon. He said while currently Tata Motors caters to only about 50 per cent of the market segment in India, Nexon will take that reach to nearly 70 per cent and the upcoming launches in the next two years will help the company have 90 per cent coverage of the market, having products in almost every segment of the passenger vehicle segment.
“As part of the aggressive turnaround strategy, we have renewed focus on filling in product gaps and tapping the white spaces that will emerge. Conceptualised as a lifestyle SUV for young progressive individuals, the Nexon is the culmination of this radical shift in thinking and will further expand Tata Motors’ addressable market,” Pareek said. Available in four variants – XE, XM, XT, XZ+, the Tata Nexon will come in five colour options – Vermont Red, Moroccan Blue, Seattle Silver, Glasgow Grey and Calgary White and will come with a standard warranty of 75,000 km or 2 years, whichever is earlier.
