President Maithripala Sirisena donated Rs. 6 million to utilise for the future innovation works of the electric-powered racing car, produced by a group of students at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Moratuwa at the Presidential Secretariat, Tuesday (27). The students produced this car to enter the Formula Student 2019 event.
The Formula Student Competition 2019 will be held from 5 to 11 August 2019 in Hockenheim, Germany. Formula Student Competition is the world’s largest student engineering design competition. Entrants will compete to design, build and race a formula racing car – providing undergraduates with invaluable experience as they begin their engineering career.
The designing and building of the new racing car will be completed in August, 2019 and the students were in great difficulty due to the financial hardships faced by them.
President Sirisena, as a leader who always take steps to provide sponsorship for our young generation to conquer the future world through innovations, made this financial donation at the request of the students and the relevant cheque was handed over to the Team Leader student Niranga Mayuran.
