Darin Weerasinghe competing in the Group SL-GT up to 3500 cc event driving a Subaru STI X 1900 cc car bettered his own course record with a time of 33.83 seconds at the CEAT Eliyakanda Hill Climb organised by the Southern Motor Sports Club. The previous coast record held by Darrin was 33.85 seconds. Dinesh Jayawardena clinched second spot pushing Ashan Silva the fastest driver at the meet in 2012 into third place in this event. Darrin was rewarded the Preethi Palliyaguru trophy for the fastest time recorded at the meet.
Sachira Rajakaruna riding a Yamaha YZF 250 was the fastest rider of the day with a time of 37.20 seconds.
Young Kushan Pieris won two events, namely the Group SLA up to 1050cc event bettering the time clocked by Rohitha Rajapaksa last year and the Group SLN production cars up to and including 1000 cc. Rajitha Uluwita set a new record for event number 12, the group SLN Production cars one make classes Ford Laser/Mazda 323 u to 1300cc with a time of 40.59 seconds pushing Kushan into second spot.
80 riders and 65 drivers competed at this year’s event in an endeavour to be the fastest to ride or drive up the 540 metre course at Eliyakanda Matara.
