SLIM signs first MOU with University of Ruhuna to aggressively look beyond education

De Silva The Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) signed a Memorandum of understanding on 18 December 2013 with the Faculty of Management and Finance of the University of Ruhuna with a view to develop the marketing profession, its theories and practices; contribute knowledge within the country and share resources between the two institutes. In addition, the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing will award the SLIM Gold Medal to the student who performs best specialising in Marketing at the Bachelor of bBusiness Administration Degree Program. Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake and Head of the Department of Marketing and Finance W.M. Rohan Laksiri signed on behalf of the University of Ruhuna, while Vice President - Education Danesh Jayathilake and CEO Sanath Senanayake signed on behalf of the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing. Speaking at the event Senior Professor Gamini Senanayake said that the University of Ruhuna is one of two universities in the island which can boast of having eight faculties. The university has more than 8,000 students on roll and more than 500 academic staff members. The University was the third best in the island and ranked 2,563rd in the world in 2013. He said that it was through institutions like SLIM that the knowledge gained at the university is decimated. SLIM Vice President – Education Danesh Jayathilake said that the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing had identified the University of Ruhuna as one of the most aggressive in the country, in the sense that it looked beyond education and this union would add additional values to the university’s curriculum. “SLIM will be signing it s second MOU with the University of Jaffna in the near future” he added.
