Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) launched a new course, the Certificate in Pharmaceutical Marketing (PharMa). It is a course designed for medical delegates who are already employed in pharmaceutical companies as well as for school leavers keen on a career of a medical delegate. It will help them to enhance their knowledge on pharmaceutical marketing and to prepare them for a higher career path in the pharmaceutical industry.

PharMa is the result of a combination of factors. The professional expertise of the pharmaceutical trade together with the inputs of the Sri Lanka Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry (SLCPI) and SLIM have helped to design the course, which is intended to fulfill a void of a certified qualification level for medical delegates.
PharMa is an innovative skills development programme focusing on training to embrace the most effective & best practices to succeed in the pharmaceutical trade, said Thushara Perera, President of SLIM.
The programme consists of six modules and it spans over 72 hours. It will give the students, a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, sales, marketing and management.
The objectives of the course are to:
familiarise students with the basic concepts of the medical delegate’s job role, rights and responsibilities
widen their medical knowledge in order to understand and respond in a rational manner to the doctors and other medical professionals
introduce students to the concepts, analysis, and activities that comprise sales and marketing and to train them in assessing and solving basic marketing problems
encourage students to stick to the ethical practices at all times
help students to develop critical thinking and sharpen the analytic abilities by:
Those with GCE O/L with a minimum of six months experience in the Pharmaceutical industry and excellent communication skills in English or two passes in GCE A/L preferably in Bio Science stream are eligible to follow the course. The duration of the course is six months in total. It is a part-time program covering six modules with each module covering a depth of content within stipulated direct contact hours, delivered on part-time basis.
SLIM as the national body of marketing, is now venturing further into areas of marketing that is of importance to Sri Lankans today. It is in this endeavour of strengthening the marketing profession in Sri Lanka, that SLIM is now stepping in to the Pharmaceutical Marketing Sector through providing the Certificate in Pharmaceutical Marketing (PharMa).
