SLIM holds first Board of Study meeting for 2013/2014

The first meeting of Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) Board of Study for the academic Year 2013/2014 was held recently at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel. The Board of Study is the foremost authority on all educational programs of SLIM and holds the decision making power for any reforms of the said programs. The meeting saw Chairman Professor K.U. Kamalgoda stepping down from his position and inviting a new leadership to take over the committee. This was of particular significance as Prof. Kamalgoda, the former Managing Director of State Pharmaceutical Corporation, had served as the Chairman for five consecutive years before relinquishing his post. Dehan Seneviratne was unanimously appointed as the Chairman of Board of Study for the Year 2013/2014. Seneviratne is a Marketing/Management Consultant and a past President of SLIM. This was followed by the appointment of Professor Sampath Amarathunga, Dean of the Management Faculty of University of Sri Jayawardenepura, to the Board of Study. His inclusion has further strengthened the committee which has contained several eminent academics since its inception. The Board of Study comprises: Dehan Senevirathna – Marketing/Management Consultant (Chairman BoS); Professor K.U. Kamalgoda – former Managing Director of State Pharmaceutical Corporation, former Chairman BoS; Dr. J.A.S.K. Jayakody – Head, Department of Management and Organization Studies, Faculty of Management of Finance, University of Colombo; Prof. Uditha Liyanage – Director, Postgraduate Institute of Management; Deepal Sooriyaarachchi – Marketing Consultant, Chairman Sri Lanka Inventors Forum, former Managing Director Eagle Insurance; Prof.  Sampath Amaratunge – Dean, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayawardanepura. SLIM President Gamika De Silva commenting on the occasion said that SLIM was committed towards the continuous development of its educational programs. “SLIM attaches great value and importance to its educational programs and this is evident in the popularity of these programs among the student population. I am confident that the Board of Study will further enhance the quality of these programs in 2013/2014.” SLIM CEO/Executive Director Sanath Senanayake was appreciative of the efforts of the Board of Study and congratulated the new appointees. “The Board of Study has rendered a great service to SLIM and its efforts have promoted a positive image of the institute. I would like to congratulate the new Chairman, Dehan Seneviratne, and wish him all success during his tenure. I also congratulate Professor Sampath Amarathunga on joining the committee.” In addition to these appointments, a few strategic level discussions took place at the meeting resulting in several important academic decisions.
